Let’s honor our stories.
“We tell ourselves stories in order to live.” -Joan Didion
How I practice
Managing in this world takes courage. Our sense of Self comes from our stories of our successes and failures, our gains and losses, our joys and sufferings. Our telling and retelling of these stories is not unbiased: we struggle to remember our growth and easily fixate on setbacks. Stories are not just the memories, but the ways we've learned to protect our vulnerable parts. It is up to us which stories we choose to believe.
Therapy is building awareness of your unique tales - telling your stories - and then reauthoring them with self-compassion. I work with people through their suffering, which can cause our storytelling to veer away from the healing power of Self. Maybe your behavior does not reflect your values, or maybe you desire to manage the feelings of those around you. Maybe you feel stuck and bound to a life that lacks meaning or pleasure. As we realize that Self energy is the source of treatment, we can begin to unlearn what does not serve us, what holds us back.
Stories resonate with parts of ourselves: mythology, books, television, film, family secrets, society's expectations, etc. I use our narratives and beliefs, as held by our inner parts, to help us understand who you are and who you want to be. I integrate client-centered, narrative, EFT, and IFS into my work, always with a focus on client unique identities and struggles. I am also trained in harm reduction (substances and OCSB), mindfulness practices, and trauma processing.
We are fellow travelers in this world, for the time we share it. I'm honored to witness your stories, to celebrate your victories, and to sit alongside you.
I work virtually through a HIPAA-compliant, confidential telehealth platform.
